The ACT export market is leading the nation, with businesses from an assortment of industries enjoying success overseas.
One of these success stories is local artist and entrepreneur, Benjamin Shine, who says that winning the ACT Export Award’s Arts and Entertainment Award has seen a great difference in the way clients view his business.
“I like living in the ACT, it’s a great place to be based,” he said. “After I won the Award, I noticed quite a difference on a couple of projects, people take your business seriously when you have that kind of accolade and it lends a certain credibility to your work.
“I’m now at a point where I can concentrate more on my artwork, the part of my export business I enjoy the most. Other commercial projects are also in the pipeline but since winning I’ve really been able to take my business in the direction I enjoy the most.”
Having depicted the likes of Barack Obama, Margaret Thatcher, Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn, Benjamin is now finding himself in great demand for commissioned work throughout the world. He has also developed several successful commercial products, with a couple of design projects close to completion.
Currently, Benjamin is travelling to Dubai, Monaco, and the UK to present several large artworks, created using his innovative technique of intricately draping fabric on canvas (see picture below). He has produced a variety of commissioned work for the Royal Families in the United Arab Emirates and Monaco, as well, Google, Coca-Cola and MTV.
The ACT Chief Minister's Export Awards are an initiative of the ACT Government, managed and delivered by the Canberra Business Council.
