COAG formally established the Ministerial Council on International Trade in early 2008, with a key focus on restoring Australia's level of productivity and international competitiveness through greater input from all jurisdictions. The council represents the first time that federal and state trade and trade-related strategies have been brought together through dialogue and cooperation under one body. Issues the council address include: trade liberalisation, Free Trade Agreements, trade with ASEAN, Brand Australia education exports and trade and investment development.
