The first, of what will be regular Industry Capability Network (ICN) networking events, was held on Thursday 23 August at the Canberra Business Event Centre at Regatta Point. The event proved to be very popular with over 75 local business people from a large cross-section of the Canberra business community participating.

 Promoting Business Opportunities

The event provided information for the region’s businesses about the opportunities available through the ICN in the ACT. Activities such as these will enable SMEs to establish new contacts, renew business relationships and ensure they are kept up to date on the vast variety of projects in the region that are underway or currently at the planning stage. The event also provided the opportunity for participants to meet ACT ICN consultants and Business and Industry Development staff who were able to provide information relevant for local businesses.

 Event Speakers

There were four speakers at the event. They all provided a knowledgeable and informative view of the ICN and how it has assisted businesses in the region.

  • Mr Derek Lark, Executive Director of Industry Capability Network Limited, provided an informative overview of how the ICN has assisted Australia and New Zealand businesses over the 20 years it has been operational.
  • Ms Dita Hunt, Senior Manager, Business and Industry Development and ICN Executive Director (ACT), spoke about ACT ICN activities and the forthcoming Major Project Symposium, which will be held at the Hotel Realm in Barton on Tuesday 23 October 2007.
  • Mr John Paget, Director of the ACT Prison Project extended an invitation to interested parties to make contact with him on a range of work packages for the ACT Prison Project. [External Link]
  • Ms Donna Alexander provided an insight into the assistance the ICN gave APA Management Systems when opening offices in Melbourne and Brisbane. Donna can be contacted by phone on 6262 6288.

 Positive Feedback

ACT ICN consultants have been inundated with positive feedback from people who attended the event. A number of local businesses have reported making very promising leads, whilst others have advised of significant orders being placed.

Overall, a valuable event with very encouraging outcomes.
