Day 2

'Aimed at encouraging direct trade and
investment links between business
in the ACT and India'

Background

In February 2007, the Australian Capital Territory Chief Minister, Mr Jon Stanhope MLA led the first ACT Government trade delegation to India with the aim of encouraging direct trade and investment links between businesses in the ACT and India.

During the delegation, several of the Indian organisations visited expressed a strong desire for a return visit to the ACT, to see first hand the opportunities in Canberra and Australia and to further build relationships and business ties. To bring this interest together, the ACT Government conceived the India in Focus business and cultural event which took place over the 22nd and 23rd of October 2007.

Review of Event

The India in Focus event comprised a number of information sessions, networking events and a Major Projects Symposium.

The following is an overview of the information sessions and activities held during the two days:

  • Day 1: Monday 22 October 2007 (National Convention Centre); and
  • Day 2: Tuesday 23 October 2007 (Hotel Realm, Barton)

At the conclusion of Day 1, sponsors, special guests and international dignitaries attended an exclusive VIP Cocktail Party at the Boat House Restaurant, on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin.

The event culminated in a gala dinner to launch Diwali (the Indian Festival of Lights) which included a spectacular fireworks display.
