SKILLED MIGRATION PROGRAM AND LIVE IN CANBERRA ACTIVITIES IN UNITED KINGDOM

Business and Industry Development’s Skilled and Business Migration officers, along with Live in Canberra, participated in the Department of Immigration and Citizenship’s (DIAC) 24th Australia Needs Skills expo in London on 11/12 September and a complementary expo, Down Under Live, on 18/19 September.

The DIAC expo was a targeted forum that provided opportunities for high-potential skilled migrants to meet with Australian employers and State and Territory governments, with a focus on nomination opportunities. All jurisdictions were represented at this two-day expo, as were a number of migration agents and recruitment agencies.  From the several thousand people who registered to attend, DIAC only issued invitations to those persons with the level of qualifications, skills and experience needed by participating exhibitors.
Over 1,300 people attended the expo and over 500 were met face to face by officers on the Canberra stand.  Attendees were predominately in the health, engineering, ICT or construction/trade sectors and were keen to hear about living and working in Canberra.

The Down Under Live expo was targeted at an audience keen on travelling and/or migrating to Australia and New Zealand. The ACT was one of three state/territory government agencies exhibiting, along with migration agents, recruitment agencies and removal and packing companies. While attendees at this expo were predominantly focused on the larger state capitals, it provided an opportunity to raise Canberra’s profile.
