ACT CHIEF MINISTER’S EXPORT AWARDS WINNERS

Canberra-based manufacturer Australian Scientific Instruments (ASI) was named ACT's 2010 Exporter of the Year by the Chief Minister and Minister for Business and Economic Development, Jon Stanhope. Around 200 guests, including members of the diplomatic community and Australian Government officials attended the ACT Export Awards ceremony in September.

In presenting the award, Mr Stanhope paid tribute to ASI as a world-leading exporter of instruments for geochemistry and geomechanics. ASI was also the winner of the Small Medium Manufacturer Award.

"Owned by the commercial arm of the Australian National University, ASI develops and exports scientific instruments in what is a highly specialised global market," Mr Stanhope said. "Its instruments are used throughout the world to determine the thermal history and date of rocks and for the exploration of diamonds, oil and metal deposits.

"ASI exemplifies the ACT's knowledge-based exporting community and is a deserving winner of this year's top ACT export award."

Mr Stanhope presented the ‘Hall of Fame’ Award to the Centre for Customs and Excise Studies, which he described as an outstanding role model for the ACT's exporting community.
