Australian, State and Territory representatives met in February to discuss the future needs of Australia's research infrastructure. At the meeting, the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research outlined the review and directions for its Strategic Roadmap for Australian Research Infrastructure, which is due to be released in the second half of this year. The 2011 Roadmap will be developed to inform future decisions on where Australia should make strategic investments to further enhance its research capacity and improve research outcomes over the next five to ten years.
The Australian Government is also working with the National Research Infrastructure Council to establish a new framework to guide future policy and funding programs for research infrastructure. The EIF Regional Round will offer regional universities and TAFEs a pool of up to $500 million to fund projects that create or develop significant education infrastructure.
