Following the second Small and Micro Business Forum (SMBF) discussions are underway to improve its effectiveness and appeal. More than 60 representatives of ACT small businesses discussed skills issues at the second annual Small and Micro Business Forum held at the National Portrait Gallery.
The Forum confirmed significant interest from small and micro businesses for the continuation and expansion of the SMBF. The formal adopted for the 2010 SMBF addressed the opportunities identified by the participants of the first forum. This included greater peer-to-peer engagement, rather than a direct interaction between Government officials and the business community. In addition, the Government was able to engage with participants through a separate element introduced for the 2010 forum - the pre-Forum Drop-in Hour.
A key message from the first two SMBFs is that the forum must be driven by the needs of the business community to maximise its benefit to both business and Government. To strengthen this aspect of the Forum a proposal is being developed for the 2011 Forum to be co-delivered through Canberra BusinessPoint and its new providers, Canberra Business Council and Lighthouse Business Innovation Centre.
