SHANGHAI WORLD EXPO - CANBERRA ON THE WORLD STAGE

The 2010 Shanghai World Expo was the biggest in the history of world expositions with 73 million visitors and the highest participation on record. The ACT Government was involved in the expo as a Silver Sponsor of the Australian Pavilion. The Pavilion's key messages played directly to the ACT's strengths and provided an excellent platform to promote Canberra in a strategically important market.

As part of the ACT's participation and sponsorship of the Australian Pavilion, the ACT hosted VIP events at the Expo and contributed to the Pavilion and cultural program to showcase Canberra's vibrancy, business innovation and educational credentials.

The Australian Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo saw more than 8 million visitors between 1 May and 31 October 2010. Warren Langley's Microscopia, the large glass artwork commissioned by the ACT Government as part of its Silver sponsorship of the Australian Pavilion, will now return to Canberra to be installed in the Women's and Children's Hospital located at the Canberra Hospital.
