PLANT PHENOMICS CENTRE OPEN DAY

On 30 November, Mary Porter MLA attended the first open day of the High Resolution Plant Phenomics Centre, Australia's world leading national facility applying high technology imaging, robotics and computing to plant analysis and crop breeding.

The ACT Government committed more than $1million in funding to the joint CSIRO and Australian National University facility which, in just over a year since its launch, has already developed a reputation within the scientific community as a centre of excellence in plant research.

The Centre has developed a number of national and international collaborative projects including a project with the Gates Foundation to deliver new rice growing technology. It has also developed a number of cutting edge technologies including PlantScan, a high throughput plant analysis machine and Phenomobile, a mobile crop analysis vehicle for use in the field.
