BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN SKILLS AND INDUSTRY NEEDS

The Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) hosted a recent meeting focusing on the difference between workforce requirements and graduates' skills on behalf of the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations' (DEEWR) Labour Market Strategy Group. The long term goal is for DEEWR, AIIA and ASG to work together to build and support relationships across education providers and industry sectors facing skills shortages. Initially the focus will be to raise awareness of the importance of collaboration in addressing skills issues. The next step will be to develop a project focused on work integrated learning in consultation with ACT tertiary education providers.
