A debrief by the Business and Industry Development Branch on the recent Chief Minister’s Trade Mission to the UAE and the UK has shown the Mission to have achieved very positive results.
Companies represented on the Mission who attended the session all reported business opportunities as a result of the Trade Mission.
Attendees CIC, Group, eWay, Poacher’s Pantry and Recruitment Systems were unanimous that additional funding support from the Government was an important factor in their participation and success.
The companies also noted that, as a result of the opportunities generated, they intend to return to mission markets within the next year.
The CIC Group and Recruitment Systems noted that the Chief Minister’s support in their meetings was most helpful in raising their profile. Poacher’s Pantry says it is hopeful that its products will be on supermarket shelves in Dubai as soon as this January and is in negotiations with the Jumeira and Hyatt hotel organisations.
In terms of immediate tangible outcomes, this Mission is one of the Government’s most successful in recent years.
An education-services Mission to Shanghai and possibly other Asia market destinations is currently being scoped for 2010. The Mission would be in conjunction with the ACT Government’s sponsorship involvement in the Australia Pavilion of the Shanghai World Expo.
