A new part-time position created for the ACT aims to stimulate appreciation of the role and benefits of science and research in the local and national community.
Business and Industry Development has entered into an agreement with CSIRO Discovery Centre, Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research and the ACT Department of Education and Training to establish and fund the position to drive science communication in the ACT.
Hosted at CSIRO, the position will establish a network of organisations engaged in science communication, stimulate collaboration and coordinate events across commercial, education and research organisations.
The initiative is part of a national science communication strategy – Inspiring Australia: A national strategy for engagement with the sciences – launched in February by the Federal Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research.
The strategy seeks to ensure that Australian society is innovative with a technologically skilled workforce, a scientifically literate community and well-informed decision makers.
