NICTA WINS INNOVATORS AWARD

Canberra-based National ICT Australia (NICTA) has won the 2010 CeBIT Early Innovators Award for its AutoMap Digital Data for GPS Mapping System.

The system automates map-making for the navigation market by using advanced computer vision to identify geo-position signs or other objects of interest from survey video data. Development of AutoMap is being led by NICTA’s Canberra Research Laboratory, which is collaborating with Sensis on commercial opportunities and with the ACT Department of Territory and Municipal Services to trial the system in its fleet vehicles.

CeBIT Australia is the leading business event in the Asia-Pacific region for Information and Communications Technology driving business strategy. Its Early Innovators Award provides a showcase for pre-commercialisation ideas, innovations and prototypes of our research and development community in Australia and New Zealand.

In other news, NICTA has posted a new promotion video on its website. The video was used at the Shanghai World Expo at the ACT events.
