A Canberra delegation to South Africa in May has reported continuing strong interest in Canberra a destination for skilled and business migrants.
In conjunction with South African-based migration agents, the delegation – comprising the ACT Government’s Skilled and Business Migration and ‘Live in Canberra’ program officers – conducted 11 seminars in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. They attracted 50 to 60 people to each event and followed up with numerous one-on-one meetings.
South Africa continues to grow as a market for skilled and business migration to the ACT. Following three previous Canberra delegations since 2007, the number of skilled migrant sponsorships has increased from 6 to 187 in total in 2009–10.
Since January 2009, Canberra has welcomed 24 families from South Africa who are now working in the ICT, construction, human resources, engineering and printing industries.
