ACT businesses have given the thumbs up to the high-performing ACT economy in the March quarter ACT and Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry's business expectation survey.
The survey asks businesses what their expectations are for the performance of the national and ACT economies for the next three months based on ten different measures, including sales revenue, profits, wage growth and investment in plant and equipment.
In most categories, the 700-plus members of the ACT Chamber had a positive outlook, and 76 per cent of those considered the ACT economy would be the same as or stronger than the past 12 months.
Overall, ACT businesses reported improvements in the general business conditions during the March quarter, with the index rising by six percentage points over the previous quarter.
Survey results for the quarter indicate that the positive expectations of ACT businesses are consistent with strong economic reports from other recent independent surveys. Two recent assessments of the ACT economy, including CommSec's ‘State of the States' report, rated the ACT economy the best in Australia.
