Appointments to the new Regional Development Australia (RDA) ACT Committee are expected to be announced by mid-June, after expressions of interest closed on 12 April.
RDA is a partnership between the Australian, state and territory and local governments to support the growth and development of Australia's regions. RDA Committees around Australia represent the broad interests of their region and work to create awareness of government initiatives, programs and services.
The ACT agreed to join RDA in May 2009. At the time, ACT Chief Minister Jon Stanhope said the RDA committees would support community engagement, regional planning, whole-of-government activities, individual government programs and community development.
“They are a great opportunity for ACT residents with relevant local experience to act as a valuable source of regional advocacy and make a real difference to the decision-making process”, he said.
