Four out of five ACT businesses say they either increased or maintained their capital expenditure on buildings and plant and equipment in the 2009 September quarter.
The ACT Deputy Chief Minister and Treasurer, Katy Gallagher MLA, said the positive result was a sign of the resilience of ACT businesses during the Global Financial Crisis.
She was speaking at the launch last month of the ACT and Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry's business expectations survey results for the 2009 September quarter.
‘The results of the Chamber's survey are consistent with the emerging picture of an economy that is now past the worst of the crisis but still faces some challenges in the near future,’ Ms Gallagher said.
She said the ACT Government continued to work with the business sector through various business development initiatives to mitigate any negative impacts of the economic slowdown.
The Deputy Chief Minister reiterated the Government's commitment to working with the Chamber and other local business organisations in identifying measures that will help the ACT economy emerge stronger from the economic downturn.
