The launch of the 2010 Australian Innovation Festival in the ACT on 26 April kicked off five weeks of events built around the theme ‘Building Sustainable Businesses’ to highlight the importance of business innovation following last year’s global economic uncertainty.
The Festival runs nationally. Inthe ACT, around 25 events will create greater public awareness of the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship through an emphasis on research, development and commercialisation.
Events include a public debate; seminars on business growth, research, management, and sales and business communication; a mentor evening; an enterprise development and sustainability forum; and IT in the Pub.
Speaking at the official launch of the ACT Innovation Festival, Chief Minister Jon Stanhope commended the ACT’s businesses for their concerted efforts in collectively strengthening Canberra’s claim as Australia’s knowledge and innovation capital.
Mr Stanhope observed that Canberra was one of the leading knowledge hubs in the world, with its strong emphasis on research and development, large proportion of knowledge workers, and world class science and innovation infrastructure.
“Innovation is not an option – it’s a necessity”, he said.
